Be advised, this demo is still a work in progress. This is not the final mix, but the second draft. Adjustments are currently being made to accommodate feedback from the publisher.
For the Portfolio 3 class, we were given different listing opportunities to select from. These opportunities come from different publishing companies and are actual requests out in the industry. After we made our selection, we would develop our song according to the reference songs and the theme description given. My selection was the following:
SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS with Male Vocals are needed
This Music Supervisor is looking for Mid-Tempo Songs with Male vocals that could fit in
the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:
"I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz
"Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur
"Good People" by Jack Johnson
Please send top-tier Singer/Songwriter Songs with fun and upbeat summertime vibes! Your
submissions should have light-hearted and catchy melodies, singalong choruses, and solid lyrics.
Current-sounding Singer/Songwriter instrumentation in the general wheelhouse of the references
will work best for this pitch – acoustic guitar, drums, bass, etc.
The recording here is in an ABABAB song form (Verse-Chorus- Verse-Chorus- Verse-Chorus), but the final product will be in ABABCB form (Verse-Chorus- Verse-Chorus- Bridge-Chorus) with a repeated Chorus at the end, per the publisher’s feedback. I went with a ukulele as the main instrument to capitalize as much as I could on the summertime feel that the publishers were requesting. I paired it with a drum kit for the rhythm section, with a bit of a Reggae feel to support the island-like feel on the song. I wrote this in F major, with a tempo of 110 bpm. I am currently working on re-recording the ukulele and vocals with different microphones to test out different sound qualities, and looking to add more space in between the different sections of the song. I will also be adding a couple of extra instruments into the arrangement and an instrumental during the bridge. The song itself was inspired by all the wonders around us that God has made and we get to enjoy every day. We see the beauty of His creation in everything, from the sand under our feet, to the seagulls flying above. As a Christian, I am mindful about the music I write, and will always do everything I can to incorporate my faith into what I write. Because the listing was not requesting a Christian song, the original lyrics were reworked a bit to appeal a wider audience, but the heart of the song remains the same. The lyrics of the song are as follow. I hope you enjoy it.
(A) Verse 1
The sun is shining, the breeze is blowing.
The little birds have come out to play.
I thank the good LORD Almighty, knowing
Today will be an amazing day.
(B) Chorus
In the sand and seagulls,
I see Your wonders made.
I walk among the people,
And I see kindness paid.
(A) Verse 2
I see the joy of the children playing.
I see a lovely couple holding hands.
I see the wind’s got the palm trees swaying,
As I sit and dip my toes in the sand.
(B) Chorus
In the sand and seagulls,
I see Your wonders made.
I walk among the people,
And I see kindness paid.
(C) Bridge
I walk the shore, with You by my side.
I feel Your love when You hold my hand.
You’re always with me, even through my pride.
You help me up when I just can’t stand.
(B) Chorus
In the sand and seagulls,
I see Your wonders made.
I walk among the people,
And I see kindness paid.
(B) Chorus
In the sand and seagulls,
I see Your wonders made.
I walk among the people,
And I see kindness paid.
